A way to protect the Sunderbans

In the month May 2020, one of the most powerful cyclone ever – Amphan devastated the Sundarbans and it surrounding regions causing enormous damage to lives and livelihood. Amphan might had been a very powerful cyclone hitting the Sundarban deltas this year but destruction caused by cyclone at the World’s biggest mangrove forest in not new. Every year cyclones of different intensity hit this delta region. Aila was another such powerful cyclone that had struck the Sunderbans in 2009. The editorial explains the ways and steps taken by the State government to protect the Sunderbans. There are four protected areas in the Sunderbans as enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
