Far from a happy toy story: Traditional toy makers face Chinese goods, high GST and lack of funds

In PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme in August, he had emphasized on promotion of locally manufactured toys that have potentials of capturing the global toy market. However, the nation-wide lockdown imposed for tackling the spread of Nobel coronona virus had worsened the woes of the craftsmen. Demonetisation, imposition of GST and influx of cheap Chinese toys into the market had already lowered the demand for their product in the market. Apart from these, lack of innovation in the design of toys and funding needed for bulk manufacturing are some other barriers.
